Van Buren St. Chicago, IL 60607 Dear Beverly, During our February Open Door meeting, Tresa VanWinkle, an RN, spoke with us about a Breast-Mapping System, which she has developed. The system allows a woman, after her own breast self-exam, to document any lumps or changes in her breasts so that she may report them accurately to her doctor during her clinical exam. Tresa developed this system as a result of her sister’s breast cancer. The lump was ignored by her doctor. By the time Tresa was able to convince the doctor to biopsy the lump, the cancer had spread to her sister’s liver. She is now in a clinical trial at M. D. Anderson. We are sending the system to you and to Y-ME National so that it may be evaluated. Apparently the American Cancer Society is also evaluating it, and Tresa is trying to get the word out by appearing on TV programs and speaking before as many groups as possible. Our core group thinks that the Breast Mapping System is a wonderful idea, one that could actually save lives, and goes hand in hand with early detection.
