WHAT
IS CONSIDERED “NORMAL”?
ON THE SURFACE .
. .
ON
THE ISSUES OF SIZE AND SHAPE
It is a blessing that we all come in different shapes and sizes.
Wouldn’t the world be a boring place if we all looked the same? The
same is true with breasts.
All are normal!
NIPPLE AND AREOLA
The
nipple is the raised center portion of the breast. On occasion breasts
have normally occurring inverted nipples. If your nipples have been
inverted since early development, then that is normal for you. Additionally,
some nipples are “shy” and invert temporarily when they are stimulated.
This too, is normal.
The nipple, along with the areola, the circular tissue surrounding the
nipple, are usually darker in color than the surrounding breast tissue.
Montgomery’s glands are the little “goose pimple” like bumps on the areola.
Since the nipple is surrounded with tiny hair follicles, nipple hair is
common.
Breast milk leaves the breasts through the milk duct openings when you
are breastfeeding (lactating). Tiny amounts of skin softening oils
are produced by the sebaceous glands.
