SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
OF BREAST CANCER
The
American Cancer Society advises:
Signs to look for include “. . . any difference in the size and shape
of your breasts or in the color or texture of the skin. Other changes
to look for are nipple discharge and scaliness of the skin, expecially
around the nipple. ‘Dimpling’ or ‘puckering’ of the skin or retraction
of the nipple may be important because this could mean something is pulling
from within.”9
According
to the Breast Cancer Network:
“Symptoms or breast changes to be aware of include any lump, thickening,
or swelling , dimpling, skin irritation, distortion, retraction of the
nipple, scaliness, pain, tenderness of the nipple, or nipple discharge.”1
The
National Cancer Institute explains:
The most common sign of breast cancer is a lump or thickening felt in
or near the breast or in the underarm area. Additional signs include
any difference in the appearance between the two breasts, including a change
in the size or shape; dimpling, puckering or scaling of the skin; discharge
from the nipple; or a change in the color or texture of the skin of the
breast or areola.4,11,12,13
